EARLY STAGE RESIDENCY AT THEATRE MADAM BACH FOR DANISH-BASED ARTISTS.
Are you working with – or dreaming of developing – performing arts for the very youngest? Are you looking for inspiring surroundings for a project in the idea development phase? EARLY STAGE is a mini-residency focusing on experimentation, exchange, and the development of art for children aged 2–6. It takes place in mid/late October at Teaterværkstedet Madam Bach in Odder, south of Aarhus.
Who can apply
Professional creative artists (performing artists, musicians, visual artists, illustrators, craft artists, etc.) based in Denmark, who work with – or are curious about – the 2–6-year-old audience.
What we offer
Up to 5 days of artistic immersion in our theatre space (10 x 7 m, can be arranged as a black box with basic technical equipment) and in the outdoor space The Curious Garden.
A studio apartment at the theatre for one person (bathroom, loft bed, kitchenette, free coffee/tea). Note: Not suitable for allergy sufferers – a cat also lives at the theatre.
Exchange with Theatre Madam Bach, who have many years of experience with theatre for the youngest – also internationally.
Opportunity to test material with local children.
Possibility to present the project at Small Scale Festival 2026 (by further agreement).
What we expect
That you work independently on your project/idea.
That you share insights into your process along the way (showings, excerpts, sketches, etc.).
That you conclude your stay with a short video greeting, sharing a bit about your experience or what you take with you from the residency.
Please note: The residency is unpaid. We therefore expect you to cover/apply for your own salary, transport, and meals.

Monday, October 27 – Friday, October 31

We are an internationally touring theatre company based in Odder, south of Aarhus. Our work springs from the wish to create present, sensuous, and poetic theatre experiences for the youngest – and we are passionate about sharing our experience and opening our space to colleagues equally interested in children as audiences.
